What it covers

Refinish the surface, keep the building open

Architectural finishing film is a self-adhesive material applied directly over an existing surface to change its finish. Wood grain, stone, textile, solid colour and metallic patterns are all available, and the result reads as the finish rather than as a wrap.

It suits buildings that need to look renewed without a construction schedule. Elevator cabs, door leaves and frames, reception desks, columns, washroom partitions, casework and counter faces are all common. We install from more than one manufacturer, including Bodaq and 3M product lines, and specify to the substrate in front of us.

  • In-place installationDoors stay hung, millwork stays fitted, cabs stay in the shaft.
  • Substrate preparationCleaning, deglossing and edge detailing so the film stays put.
  • Wrapped edgesReturns and edges wrapped so no cut line is visible in use.
  • Documented specificationProduct, batch and location recorded for future repair matching.

Scope

Surfaces we refinish

Where architectural film does its best work.

  • Doors and frames

Leaves, frames and vision panel surrounds refinished without rehanging.

  • Elevator interiors

Cab walls, ceilings and door faces, coordinated with the lift contractor.

  • Casework and millwork

Reception desks, cabinetry, shelving and service counters.

  • Walls and columns

Feature walls, columns and wall protection panels.

  • Washroom partitions

Cubicle panels and vanity faces refreshed between tenancies.

  • Repair and matching

Damaged panels replaced from recorded product references.

Practicalities

How a film refinish runs

Most of the value is in the preparation and the edge detailing. We survey the substrate first, because a surface that will not hold adhesive is a surface that needs a different answer.

Questions we get asked

Plain answers to the questions buyers and building owners ask us most.

Is architectural film better than renovating a surface?

It is better when the surface is structurally sound and only the finish is dated. Film changes the look in place, with no demolition, no disposal and usually no closure, at a fraction of the cost of replacement. It is the wrong choice when the substrate itself has failed.

How much does architectural film cost?

Cost is driven by area, edge detail and access rather than by material alone. Published installed rates for architectural finishing film are usually quoted per square foot and sit far below the cost of removing and replacing the same surface, but the only reliable number comes from a survey of the actual substrate.

Can architectural film be used inside an elevator?

Yes, and elevator cabs are one of its most common uses. Interior finishes in an elevator are code-governed, so the product needs an appropriate surface burning classification and the work should be coordinated with your lift contractor for sign-off.
