Films and graphics

Materials we specify and install

We install film and graphics from more than one manufacturer. The specification follows the glass, the substrate and the outcome you need, not a single product line.

How we specify

The building decides the product

Film is not interchangeable. A solar film that performs beautifully on tempered glass can put an annealed sealed unit under thermal stress. A security film only delays forced entry if it is anchored to the frame. A bird-friendly pattern only counts if the markers are on the outside surface at the right spacing.

So we survey first, record the glass and substrate, then specify. Below are the five families we install most, with what each one actually does.

  • Surveyed firstGlass build and substrate recorded before any product is quoted.
  • Multi-manufacturer3M, Bodaq and others, chosen for the application in front of us.
  • Standards awareWe work to CSA, ASTM and CPSC references where they apply.
  • Installed by usThe same crews that survey the site do the installation.

Most asked about

Safety & Security Film

Holds broken glass in the frame and delays forced entry. Anchoring decides how much it delays.

  • Glass retention on breakage
  • Forced-entry delay when anchored
  • 4 to 14 mil thickness options

Most popular

Window & Solar Control Film

Cuts solar heat gain, glare and UV on the glass you already have. Our most requested film.

  • Heat and glare reduction
  • Over 99% UV rejection typical
  • Glass compatibility assessed first

Standards driven

Bird-Friendly Glass Treatment

Exterior marker patterns that make glass readable to birds, with the view kept clear from inside.

  • Applied to the exterior surface
  • CSA A460 spacing guidance
  • Occupant view stays clear

Renovation alternative

Architectural Finishing Film

Changes the finish of doors, cabs, casework and walls in place. No demolition, no millwork removal.

  • Wood, stone, textile and metallic looks
  • Applied over existing surfaces
  • Class A rated products available

Design led

Decorative & Privacy Film

Frosted, patterned and printed film for privacy, branding and making glass partitions visible.

  • Privacy without losing light
  • Custom printed and cut patterns
  • Glass manifestation banding

Applications

Where film goes

The surfaces we treat most often on commercial sites.

  • Exterior glazing

Solar control, security, bird-friendly and privacy on perimeter glass.

  • Interior glass

Frosted banding, branding and privacy on partitions and boardrooms.

  • Doors and frames

Architectural finishing film over dated door leaves and frames.

  • Elevator interiors

Cab walls and doors refinished without removing the cab from service.

  • Walls and columns

Large-format graphics and finish film in lobbies and retail.

  • Casework and counters

Reception desks, millwork and counter faces refaced in place.

Straight answers

Film questions, answered plainly

Grouped by film family. Each answer has a longer page with sources.

Safety and security film

What security film does, what it does not do, and how it is measured.

Does security film stop break-ins?

No. Security film delays forced entry rather than preventing it. It holds broken glass in the opening so an intruder needs repeated, loud, visible effort instead of one hit, and that delay is what deters most attempts.

How does security film work?

A thick polyester film is bonded to the glass with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. When the glass breaks, the film's tensile strength holds the fragments together so the pane stays in the opening, and frame anchoring transfers the impact load into the building structure.

Window and solar control film

Heat, glare, UV and the glass compatibility question nobody asks early enough.

Does window film reduce heat?

Yes. Solar control film reflects and absorbs part of the solar spectrum before it enters the room, which lowers solar heat gain and cooling load. A US General Services Administration field study measured an average 29% annual HVAC saving in the perimeter zone of retrofitted buildings.

Does window film block UV?

Yes. Current commercial window films reject better than 99% of ultraviolet light across the 300 to 380 nanometre range. That slows fading, but no film can stop fading completely, because visible light and heat also cause it.

Will window film break my glass?

It can, if the wrong film is specified. Absorptive solar films raise glass temperature, and every glass type except tempered is susceptible to thermal stress breakage when an unsuitable film is applied. That is why the glass build has to be recorded before anything is quoted.

Architectural finishing film

How film compares with replacing a surface, and where it is code-relevant.

Is architectural film better than renovating a surface?

It is better when the surface is structurally sound and only the finish is dated. Film changes the look in place, with no demolition, no disposal and usually no closure, at a fraction of the cost of replacement. It is the wrong choice when the substrate itself has failed.

How much does architectural film cost?

Cost is driven by area, edge detail and access rather than by material alone. Published installed rates for architectural finishing film are usually quoted per square foot and sit far below the cost of removing and replacing the same surface, but the only reliable number comes from a survey of the actual substrate.

Can architectural film be used inside an elevator?

Yes, and elevator cabs are one of its most common uses. Interior finishes in an elevator are code-governed, so the product needs an appropriate surface burning classification and the work should be coordinated with your lift contractor for sign-off.

Bird-friendly glass treatment

What makes glazing bird-friendly and which standards define it.

What is bird-friendly glass?

Glass treated so birds can see it. In practice that means a marker pattern on the outside surface, spaced closely enough that a bird will not try to fly between the markers. The Canadian standard CSA A460 sets out marker size, spacing and how much of a facade to treat.

Will bird-friendly film block the view from inside?

Very little. The markers are small and evenly spread across the glass, so from inside they read as a faint texture rather than an obstruction. Most occupants stop noticing them within the first week.

Installation and scheduling

How our installs run on occupied sites, and what we need from you.

How long does a commercial installation take?

Most single-site retail or office jobs are one to three days on site. The bigger variable is access, not area: what we can complete in one night in an empty store can take three evenings in a trading one. Every schedule comes out of the survey, not a rate card.

Do you install outside business hours?

Yes. Night, early morning and weekend work is normal for us, because most commercial spaces cannot close for an installation. Retail décor, office branding and elevator cab work are routinely done after hours so the space is trading or occupied the next morning.
